When healthy, New Jersey has the makings of a contender. Jack Hughes was a point-per-game force again but played just 61 games, and that is the whole story: injuries up and down the lineup sank the Devils out of the playoffs for a second straight year. Nico Hischier (66 points) and Jesper Bratt (71) carried full, productive seasons, and Timo Meier chipped in 24 goals, while Luke Hughes and Dougie Hamilton give the blue line real talent even if the underlying defensive numbers still need work. Goaltending remains the perpetual question, with Jake Allen steady but no clear franchise answer in the crease. The roster is good enough to matter, so the 2026-27 season comes down to one thing: can this group finally stay healthy?
