Matthew Schaefer was the story, the 18-year-old #1 overall pick tying Brian Leetch's all-time NHL record for goals by a rookie defenseman with 23 and leading all first-year players in ice time. Bo Horvat and Mathew Barzal produced and Ilya Sorokin held up his end by save percentage above expected, but the Isles still missed the playoffs in a brutal Metro race. The kid can play. The rest of the roster has to figure out how to take advantage.
