While the rest of the Atlantic pushes forward, Detroit is sliding the other way. Steve Yzerman has stepped down, ending the rebuild that carried his name, and captain Dylan Larkin has requested a trade, leaving the franchise without its architect or its face heading into an uncertain season. The talent on hand is real: Alex DeBrincat scored 41 goals, Lucas Raymond broke out for 76 points, and Moritz Seider anchored the blue line with a 60-point year. But a second straight missed playoffs, a front office in transition, and a captain who wants out have turned a patient rebuild into a full reset.
