The back-to-back Cup core never got healthy, the Panthers led the league in man games lost to injury with the entire top-six core of Barkov, Tkachuk, Reinhart, Lundell, and Marchand all missing significant time. Maurice himself acknowledged 400+ man games lost by late March and the number kept climbing, you can't wrap them in bubble wrap after three straight deep playoff runs. The structure was still there when guys were on the ice but the underlying numbers slipped to middle of the pack in xGF% after leading the league for two straight years. First time missing the playoffs since 2021-22, and the 2028 contract cliff for Barkov and Tkachuk now looms larger.
