Reshaped core · Sullivan takes over

Change is everywhere on Broadway. After a second straight missed playoffs on a roster that badly underachieved, the Rangers reshaped the top of their lineup: Artemi Panarin was shipped to Los Angeles and Vincent Trocheck moved to Utah, while Pavel Dorofeyev arrived as a 37-goal winger to replace that scoring punch. Mike Sullivan takes over behind the bench to install a new structure after the team spent the year among the league's worst at 5v5 by expected goals. Mika Zibanejad still leads the way with 34 goals, a Norris-caliber Adam Fox was limited to 55 games by injury, and Will Cuylle is emerging as a 20-goal winger, with rookie Alberts Smits pushing for a role on the blue line. The constant is Igor Shesterkin, still an elite goaltender who gives the Rangers a chance most nights. Sullivan's job is to build a new identity around Shesterkin, Dorofeyev, and a retooled supporting cast.
