Reset roster · New regime + McKenna

After missing the playoffs in 2025-26, Toronto reset the entire operation. There is a new general manager in John Chayka and a new head coach in Jim Hiller, and the roster got a real makeover around a core that still features Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and John Tavares up front. Darren Raddysh arrives from Tampa to anchor the top pair, and Sergei Bobrovsky takes over a crease that sank the Leafs a year ago, when Anthony Stolarz managed just a .893 in an injury-hit season. The headline lands at the top of the draft: Toronto won the lottery and selected consensus number one prospect Gavin McKenna, adding a potential franchise cornerstone to a lineup where Matthew Knies has already emerged as a top-six force. Matthews was limited to 60 games last year, so health up the middle and Bobrovsky's form will decide how quickly this made-over group climbs back into the race.
